Application
Development: AussieGlass Benders
Problem Domain: A leading glass processing company based
at Sydney, needed a customised improved system, which
would function as their ‘Quotation and Invoicing
System’. This system had been developed keeping
in mind to integrate this application to a Production
Planning System in the second phase. In their previous
system there were a few shortcomings. The major shortcomings
could be divided into four categories eg.
a) Not user friendly
b) No reports available
c) Unable to add data to the masters without halting
the entire system
d) No database used.
Analysis: So after analyzing the system’s shortcomings,
we had decided to develop a new system based upon two-tier
architecture along with the other functionalities that
the client wanted to incorporate into the system.
Benefits of Two-Tier Architecture
a) It stores the entire data in one central location.
Because data is always accessed by requesting it from
the server, everyone always knows where to get the data
they need.
b) It makes it easier for administrators to create reports
on what data is available, and to track or monitor the
use of that data.
c) It makes it easier for administrators to save backup
copies of data, and to restore that data in case of an
accident.
d) It concentrates processor-intensive tasks on a powerful
server computer, freeing up the processors of slower
client computers.
e) Increased Security for the Application and Data
Technology: We developed the system by using the followings
Operating System: Windows 2000/XP/98
Front - end: Delphi
Back - end: SQL Server
CASE Tool: Case Studio / Rational Rose
